Magnetic field therapy history
More than 3500 years ago, different antique cultures used the healing power of magnets. During the Greek-Roman empire, when Aristotle and Hippocrates where making their scientific theories known, magnets were frequently used for healing different diseases. The magnets’ beneficial effects where just as well known in Central and North American cultures. Egyptians have studied Earth’s magnetic field and its importance for the health of both humans and animals. Cleopatra always wore a magnetic band around her head, near her forehead, because she believed it will improve her good judgment and that it will relieve her migraines.
Theophrastus of Hohenheim, also known as Paracelsus, is believed to be the founder of the modern magnetic field therapy. The first scientific studies regarding the magnetic field were performed in 1838 by Gauss and in 1885 by Simonov.
Franz Anton Mesmer was a Viennese physician considered the pioneer of magnetic field use. At the beginning of the 20th century, research performed by Galvani, Yasuda and Wolff, proved a connection between bone growth and time variation of magnetic field; this data represents the foundation of the piezoelectric effect on bones, known as Wolff’s law.
The first clinical trials started around 1960, in Russia and Japan, countries that considered a priority to study these beneficial effects on the human body. In Russia and Japan, the use of magnetic field therapy was much more appreciated than in other countries in the modern era.
Nevertheless, in 1973, a series of well documented articles were published in North America, regarding the effects of low frequency magnetic fields. In 1982, Dr. Andrew Basset published a series of 4 articles in three well known newspapers, emphasizing the beneficial effect of magnetic field on severe bone fractures. Nowadays there are thousands of publications with articles and studies performed by universities all over the world; they all consider this therapy to be very safe and efficient in healing a variety of afflictions.
What is MRS?
MRS is the abbreviation for “magnetic resonance stimulation system”. This treatment’s main characteristic refers to the effect of pulsing magnetic fields on human bodies. Vibrations are transmitted like specific information to the sick cells, which are unable to function correctly. Specific studies have already proven the efficacy of pulsating magnetic fields.
The device contains a computer and different accessories – applicator mat, accessory pad and pencil shaped probe. The device’s computer generates an electric current with specific duration and intensity; the current passes through the coils found in each of the accessories, in specific time intervals. The device also has different programs used for different afflictions and different desired outcomes. The “home” system is found on the European market for over 15 years. This system uses magnetic field stimulation with parameters that produce optimal effects on the body; it uses the frequency range of "the biological window" of 3-25 Hz and the frequency range of Earth’s magnetic field of 7,83-11,79 Hz. These waves interfere, generating “saw-tooth” waves specific for global treatment, but also other types of waves specific for local treatment (using the accessory pad or pencil shaped probe)
There are many electromagnetic systems worldwide, which do not generate frequencies within the biological window, and that is the reason why their efficacy is questionable. There is also a rating system for these products, online, developed by physicians that have studied the quality/efficiency/price rapport for these types of products.
The term “magnetic resonance stimulation” refers to applying the pulsating magnetic field on 75 trillion cells belonging to the body (the magnetic field is a perfect match with the Earth’s magnetic field); the cells can be stimulated by a harmonic resonance and in return, the cell’s membrane permeability becomes normal, the cell’s energy increases, thus boosting the body’s self-healing ability. Modern systems call this principle “the body’s biological clock”. This system uses frequencies according to the body’s biological clock, using daily time intervals, while the other frequencies are not present; this is how the body is stimulated only with the best frequencies within the physiological biorhythm. This is the reason why magnetic resonance stimulation is becoming more and more efficient in balancing human metabolic energy. Also, this treatment method is very effective for a wide range of afflictions, with no important adverse effects and very few contraindications.
By using this system with regularity, the body’s energy levels can be improved, by balancing the metabolic, neurologic and circulatory systems, by increasing vitality and sleep normalization.
Why do we need the Earth’s magnetic field?
The basic principle for MRS 2000+ Designo is Earth’s magnetic resonance. We are all under the influence of Earth’s geomagnetic field. According to the Dynamic theory of Albert Einstein, 1905, this magnetic field appears because of the electroconducting fluids (that contain iron) that move through the Sun’s magnetic field.
Both terrestrial magnetic polls (N and S) interact with each other, and the forces generated by these interactions are stronger in the polls’ proximity and weaker as the distance grows.
The strongest electromagnetic fields are near the polls, approximately 66 µT, and the weakest field is near the Equator (only 26 µT). Thousands of years ago, Earth’s magnetic field was much stronger, about 200 µT, and nowadays it barely reaches 50 µT. 1000 years ago, Earth’s magnetic field was estimated somewhere around 1000 µT.
In popular beliefs, Earth’s magnetic field was seen only as a dipole. This statement ignored Piontzik’s last findings, in 2007, that showed a magnetic field clearly separated in the ionosphere. The carrier frequency for Earth’s dipole near the polls and near Equator is 11,75 Hz. The waves’ frequency in the ionosphere, also called Schumann waves, is 7,83 Hz. These two magnetic sources were present since the beginning of life on Earth and since then, the entire population has evolved under their influence. Studies have shown that, human-kind needs these two magnetic fields to survive.
In 1975, W. R. Adey and S. M. Bawin conducted a series of experiments on nervous tissue response under the influence of magnetic fields, and concluded that nervous cells only respond to frequencies of 3-25 Hz, called “biological window” or “Adey window”. It would appear that humans and animals react positively only when exposed to these frequencies, while different frequencies have a negative effect or no effect at all. These non-biological frequencies are called “electrosmog”. Domestic devices of 50 Hz in Europe and 60 Hz in USA clearly generate non-biological frequencies when compared with Adey’s window. If we also add the use of mobile phones with frequencies of 800-1900 MHz, we clearly find grounds for negative effects on our bodies.
Earth’s magnetic field intensity is also important and it has a positive effect on humans and animals. It ranges from 22-66 micro-Tesla (2007), depending on the geographical location.
Health and survival is directly proportional with the magnetic field. Whales, ducks, pigeons and even bees navigate directed by the magnetic field, which also has an important role for vegetation. NASA studies on mice, kept 4 month outside the influence of the terrestrial magnetic field, have shown an increased appearance of tumors and pathological organ alterations (liver, kidney, leucocytes, etc); also they noticed an important mortality increasement. Later on, studies became even more relevant after Gagarin’s first flight in space; when he returned to Earth after 4 weeks in space with no magnetic field, he was suffering from advanced osteoporosis, as well as an extended pathology that eventually lead to his premature death.
That is the reason why there are now devices that generate magnetic fields in space flights.
About cell resonance in magnetic fields
Cell membranes vibrate to a certain frequency that depends on numerous factors and varies from one person to another and from cell to cell; also, every cell has specific amplitude that represents the vibration’s height. The resonance phenomenon can be substantiated by joining together two diapasons. If one of them vibrates at 440 Hz, the oscillatory wave’s amplitude displaces a volume that can not be heard by the human ear, but it can be seen or felt with one’s hand. During the oscillation’s final phase, even though the amplitude decreases rapidly, the oscillation itself (the frequency) has the same standard value of 440 Hz. The example above can also explain the vibratory response of cell membrane. The cell membrane oscillates to a certain frequency and amplitude. Sick cells have different oscillatory amplitudes; because of action potential reduction, their frequencies stay the same, even though the oscillations become weaker, just like in the final vibratory phase of a diapason.
This is the moment when the magnetic field resonance phenomenon intervenes, because the oscillation’s amplitude can be readjusted to normal boundaries with the use of resonance. This is important because, with the improvement of oscillation’s amplitude, cells become better oxygenated; this idea has been confirmed by recent scientific discoveries; if cell’s oscillations are positively supported, the membrane’s receptors function better, and the nutrients and information exchange is increased (phenomenon known as “black box”). These positive effects do not appear unless oscillations are within normal range. It is very important to remember that resonance can only be obtained if the vibration matches the sick cell’s frequency. If we apply more than one vibration (such as in treatments with frequency bands), the cell will only answer to the nearest vibration, that matches the natural frequency, thus obtaining the resonance phenomenon.
As a result of the resonance phenomenon induced by magnetic field therapy, the cell’s energetic balance is readjusted; Na/K membrane pumps are activated, tissues use more oxygen, and therefore energy is being produced (ATP), even by “tired“ cells, with decreased function; also the action potential is renewed and it coordinates recovery and cellular energy regeneration. This therapy has a positive effect on the vegetative nervous system, which has many direct connections with stress related diseases, disorders and depression (psychosomatic diseases).
All sick nervous, muscular and sustaining tissues are regenerated because of increased cell activity. Nervous cell lesions, particularly anterograde degeneration, are stimulated by induced pulsing currents, which prevent the appearance of degradation and increase cell regeneration. This therapy’s hyperpolarization effect is very important because it represents the equivalent for raising the pain threshold, thus helping with pain management.
Pulsing currents create a piezoelectric effect with a key role in bone regeneration mechanism, for fracture recovery and preventing osteoporosis; it also has a direct effect on joint cartilage matrix and it is useful in treating arthrosis.
Is magnetic field overstimulation possible?
The answer is NO! The reason concerns energy production; the body produces energy with the help of a limited number of membrane ionic pumps that generate action potentials; these action potentials are governed by the “all or nothing” law. Therefore, when the threshold is reached, the body generates an action potential, but until the threshold is reached, no potential is generated. However, we shouldn’t mistake this concept with overtraining. According to WHO (World Health Organization), therapy for the entire body shouldn’t surpass 1 hour a day, and there is no limit for local use. Nevertheless, one must observe the necessary exposure time, in order to prevent the body from consuming a large amount of energy.
About magnetic field deficiency syndrome
According to Nakagawa studies (Japan Med J 1976; 2745, Dec 4), it manifests as chronic fatigue, insomnia, lumbar pain, headache, lack of energy. It is possible that fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are determined by this deficiency.
The modern civilization and full of aggression life style (electrosmog, concrete flats, means of transportation, working environment) prevent adequate magnetic field administration on the human body.
Static magnetic field versus magnetic resonance stimulation
With static magnetic fields, magnetic polarity does not change, while with magnetic resonance stimulation the polls change every 2 minutes; thus the magnetic field’s power is constantly modified and it can exceed 100 or 1000 times the terrestrial magnetic field. These modifications are pulsating when the pause between impulses occurs, and this is the reason why cells don’t grow tired or get used to the stimulation; the body remains responsive to treatment the entire session.
Another benefic effect is the rehabilitation, to normal values, of cell membrane potential; the ionic exchange is normalized, thus diminishing sickening, trauma effects or inflammations. The waves generated are saw-tooth like waves, with different carrier wave frequencies according to the body’s biorhythm, prior to the illness. By applying Fourier transform to this type of wave the following happens: sinusoid like waves are generated, as well as their harmonics, the wave’s phases are diminished or increased, and all these modifications play an important role in ionic membrane exchange.
This approach is unique in the world and the device is approved and certified by EC.

Approximately 40% of the people feel pleasant warmth or nothing at all, 10% experience tingles, and most of the people feel less tension in their back muscles.
MRS contraindicaton:
Absolute – cardiac pacemaker, especially old versions, single-chambered, or other electrical implants, such as Vagus nerve stimulation device for epileptic crises
Epilepsy, because it requires medical supervision, MRS can modify the convulsive threshold and cause seizures. There are numerous studies regarding the benefic effects of magnetic field therapy with epilepsy, just as there are isolated studies regarding negative experiences
Gravidity period is also a contraindication, more as a precaution, because so far there are no relevant facts regarding magnetic field therapy on fetus.
People who have had an organ transplant and that are currently under suppressive medication; they need to be handled with caution. Treatment should not be applied sooner than 6 month after the transplant, because this device boosts the immune system
Cautions regarding untreated hyperthyroidism or severe cardiac arrhythmias. After securing patients with hyperthyroidism, they can be successfully treated.
