OTHER TYPES OF NEUROFEEDBACK

          LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System)

LENS trainings are different than other types from neurofeedback because it introduces a very weak electromagnetic signal, close to a radio battery’s output intensity, which is lower than cell phone irradiation.

This weak electromagnetic flux is introduced into an electrode that is placed on the scalp for just a few seconds (eg: 1-7 seconds). The frequency varies based on the every moment dominant frequency, and is programmed to aid the brain to become more flexible, to self adjust, by reducing the amplitude excess and brainwaves variability.

There have been many cases of studies using this system (Cripe, press; Donaldson et. al. 1998; Larsen, Harrington, Hicks, in press; Larsen, Larsen, Adinaro, Johnson. Hanne, Sheppard, Hammond, Ochs, in press; Meuller et. al. 2001; Shoenberger et. al. 2001).

The Low Energy Neurofeedback System Is Now A FDA Certified Medical Device

HEG (pIR HEG - pasive infrared Hemoencephalography and nIR HEG - near infrared Hemoencephalography)

The two HEG systems (nIR and pIR) use a mechanism that implies the modification of the cerebral bloodstream, by increasing it in the needed areas. Once again, the preliminary studies regarding HEG applications are encouraging (Carmen, 2004; Friedes, Aberbach, 2003; Mize, 2004; Sherrill, 2004; Toomin, Mize, Kwong, Toomin, Marsh, Kozlowski, Kimball, Remond, 2004).

          pROSHI

pROSHI is another type of EDF (Electroencephalographic Disentertrainment Feedback), meaning a pleasant brainwaves feedback. These pleasant waves are achieved through lights stimulation or magnetic variables, which reset the brain’s activity to a better level.

pROSHI uses simultaneously more frequencies between 15-20 Hz, produced by light. It has been tested on 8000 children that had never had epileptic seizures and none of them had reported any negative reaction. pROSHI does not stimulate a frequency long enough to determine a seizure and therefore, the odds for an epileptic seizure to appear during the use of this instrument are very slim.

In the last 40 years, many clinical studies have proved the EEG biofeedback /neurofeedback efficiency in treating numerous problems. There are many books about EEG Biofeedback and numerous internet sites that can be consulted for further information.

pROSHI’s main goal is to stabilize the brain/ mind interface and to help in reaching a relaxation point. To silence “the basic cerebral noise” is very hard to achieve, but pROSHI was designed to create the mind’s “point zero field”, better than any other instrument. The idea came from the Tibetan monks and their meditation.

The mechanism used is based on the optical phase conjugated, which activates mirror neurons to reduce the phase, or based on image distortion, which occurs in the brain. By comparing the conjugated phase mirror and a real mirror, we realize that the image is not distorted when an element traverses it twice. This phenomenon is possible due to the usage of nonlinear optical process, through propagation direction reversal and light bream phase variation.

Light beam reversal is called conjugated ray, and this technique is known as optical phase conjugated or retroreflexion. Some might interpret this optical nonlinear interaction as a holographic process analog in real time. In this case, the light beams interact simultaneously in a nonlinear optic material in order to form a dynamic hologram (2 out of 3 rays). The third incidental ray creates an entire dynamic hologram diffraction, and in the end creates the conjugated beam wave. As a result, the three rays interact simultaneously forming more real time holograms; in nonlinear optical language, when the waves interact with each other they produce an environment polarization (transitional environment), that radiates coherently, thus forming a conjugated phase wave.

This special mirror’s reflexion coefficient is above 100%, and this is due to reflexion amplification. Actually, this conjugation is achieved by mixing 4 waves, in optical systems with intermodular distortion. The forth wavelength happens when three wavelengths interact in a nonlinear environment. It is easier to illustrate the concept stated above when using frequencies in stead of wavelengths. As the coherency signal is lost, the 4 waves’ effect decreases, along with high chromatic dispersion.

In neurosciences, this technique is unique because it treats the brain as an image processing system.

pROSHI improves interhemisferic communication between microscopic and macroscopic cerebral areas. Through data phase conjugated feedback, (a time reversal mirror) the brain is maintained in top shape. The serial data complex obtained with the aid of pROSHI is “time reversible” all the time, using the specific cerebral “zero point” as its own reference, +/- a few nanoseconds due to circuits changing speed.

Without any effort, pROSHI adjusts interhemisferical communication, and the cerebral area that cannot be adjusted reorganize and restructures themselves until the expected result is achieved.

When the brain is forced to analyze a “new” unlimited signal, similar to its own, the brain tries to copy it, phenomenon called stochastic resonance.

A normal brain enters into a quiet period, and pROSHI determines brain frequency/ phase analyzers to self adjust, correcting the brain’s own error. Afterwards, real time reorganizing and reconstruction begins, until the adjustment reaches an end.

An improvement in symptoms can be noticed after several complete sessions.  To a number of patients that have experienced benefic effects of this therapy, it is recommended that they continue with periodic sessions in order to maintain a desired level of wellbeing. pROSHI is not an invasive method. So far, this therapy has proved to be very efficient and there are no bad effect known. What is more, it helps the patient to self heal his/her brain in real time, after cranial-cerebral traumatisms or in the case of degenerative diseases.

This training is interactive, with patient’s participation and dialog regarding the benefic effects noticed by both the patient and the clinician. What is more, it does not produce fatigue and the patient cannot become accustomed with it.

The difference between pROSHI and neurofeedback is the fact that pROSHI has reward frequencies determined by brainwaves dominant activity. They modify the waves’ phase, while other types of neurotherapy modify the frequency. pROSHI is complementary to traditional neurotherapy, based on the reward frequency.

For athletes, other sports people and for people who want high cerebral performances, pROSHI helps achieve more strength, flexibility and resistance to challenging physical effort, by training the whole cerebral coherency.

          R. Monroe from Monroe Institute invented the Hemi Sync technique, also called binaural beats, when he studied the brain’s action of frequency pursuit. When using pROSHI, the brain determines an action of phase pursuit.

This equipment has been tested on Tibetan monks in order to help them meditate more efficiently, and the positive results are now acknowledged worldwide.
